Forecast Discussion:

So far this Friday morning, breezes have helped to reduce local PM10 (dust) and PM2.5 (smoke) levels in Yuma, at least at the monitoring site. However, breezes out of the west later this evening may result in some dust. PM10 is forecast to remain in the Good AQI category, though.

Yuma will miss out on the rain today, which will favor areas in northern and central Arizona. However, by Sunday, a pair of low-pressure waves is forecast to land a direct impact to Arizona from the west and this time, including Yuma in the rain forecast. Plenty of uncertainty in total rainfall still exists, but right now, a quarter of an inch is in the realm of possibilities for Yuma on Sunday. Any rain will help to reduce and suppress PM10 and PM2.5 in Yuma.

After Sunday, conditions will dry out and warm up, and breezes will shift to out of the north for a couple afternoons. Winds aren't looking to be too strong though--perhaps helping air quality more than hurting it by dispersing any locally produced PM10 or PM2.5 from the mornings. In general, the recent rain should put PM10 at a low baseline, but PM2.5 could rebound a bit quicker when conditions are stagnant in the mornings/evenings.

Overall, all pollutants are forecast in the Good AQI category each day.

Check back on Monday for the next forecast.
