UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK (UST) SECTION

Leaking UST Cleanup

Revised On: Oct. 28th, 2026 - 01:52 pm

ADEQ’s UST Program is responsible for protection of public health and the environment by preventing, detecting, and cleaning up releases of petroleum and other regulated substances from USTs into groundwater, surface water, or soils. In the event a release from an underground storage tank UST occurs, ADEQ oversees the characterization and cleanup work to ensure remediation standards are met to protect public health and the environment. UST owners and operators (responsible parties or RPs) are required to conduct corrective actions in response to a confirmed release from a regulated UST system.

Failure to address corrective action requirements in a timely manner may result in costly enforcement actions and may lead to soil and groundwater contamination, potential third-party liability, and devaluation of the subject property and potentially adjacent properties.

Off Site Access for Leaking UST Cleanup

It is sometimes necessary to investigate contamination that extends beyond the property boundaries of the site where the contamination originated. When this happens, off site property owners may be contacted with a request for access to their property | View Off-Site Access Webpage >
